48th Annual Conference on Aging Postponed  

Due to the forecast for severe flash flooding and potentially life-threatening weather across the state starting Tuesday, September 22nd through Thursday, September 24th, the New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department has made the difficult decision to postpone the 48th Annual Conference on Aging until Monday, October 19th – Wednesday, October 21st, 2026. 

Current forecasts are predicting as much as 8 inches of rain in some areas, along with a flash flood warning. Out of an abundance of caution and concern for the health and safety of everyone attending, traveling to, and working at the conference, we have decided that postponing the event is the safest course of action. 

We know that many of you have been looking forward to gathering for “Caring Across Generations,” and we are disappointed that we will not be able to welcome you this week as planned. This was not an easy decision for us to come to, but the safety of our attendees, speakers, volunteers, staff and partners must come first. 

You do not need to re-register for the new dates and if you are receiving a lodging scholarship, you will be able to still receive the lodging on the new dates. If you have registered and cannot attend on October 19th – October 21st, please reach out to us. We will be sending an update in the coming week with more information.   

Thank you for your understanding and patience, especially for those of you who have already made arrangements to attend. We recognize the time, planning and effort that goes into attending this conference, and we want to make sure that when the aging community comes together, everyone can do so safely and fully enjoy the experience. 

We look forward to gathering with you in October and celebrating all that “Caring Across Generations” represents.
